Rubella Campaign

Rubella

Due to the high burden of disease, rubella was viewed as an urgent public health problem in 2004. The rubella campaign was carried out between 16 and 26 March 2006 and involved a total of 1,495 immunization posts. It was jointly financed by BHTF, WHO and UNICEF. The total coverage over the years has been close to 98%.

Impact of the Measles and Rubella (MR) Campaign:

    • MR vaccine has become part of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Schedule;
    • Enhanced immunity in women of childbearing age with reduced incidences of CRS with external benefit to other members in the community and society;
    • Control rubella through universal vaccination of infants and young children thereby maintaining high immunization levels.
