As cervical cancer was found to be leading cancer among women in Bhutan, Her Majesty the Royal Grandmother championed the cause to reducing cervical cancer related deaths in women. Hence, in 2010 after Her Majesty’s tireless effort in championing for the HPV and through forging of relations with the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation (ACCF), the Nation-Wide immunization of HPV was done with financing from ACCF. Due to its success, the HPV immunization program was integrated into the regular immunization schedule in 2014. Starting 2017, BHTF has started co-financing of this vaccine in partnership with ACCF. Currently, in an effort to maximize coverage, the vaccine is being administered in schools for class six girls.
