In an effort to prevent children from meningitis and Pneumonia, Bhutan Health Trust Fund has started funding the Pneumococcal Conjugative Vaccine (PCV 13) which was introduced by Ministry of Health in January 2019. An estimated 800 deaths due to pneumonia and meningitis has been reported in the last nine years. Pneumococcal diseases include meningitis, otitis media, pneumonia and bacteremia. However, with this vaccine introduction, around 10,000 children are expected to be vaccinated annually to prevent them from such diseases.
