Hepatitis B vaccines

Hepatitis

This vaccine was introduced in 1996 with the vaccine being given to children under 1 year. The immunization coverage during its introduction stood at 90% and gradually increased over the years.

Impacts

  • Enhanced disease immunity of the children and society increased
  • Having immunized infants born after 1996, in 2015 almost all who are 19 years and below and all others living together in the community/society have full immunity against the diseases.
  • -Infant mortality rate (per 1000 live births) decreased from 60.5 in 2000 to 40.10 in 2005 to 30.0 in 2013 (AHBs). Under 5 mortality rate (per 1000 live births) decreased from 84.0 in 2000 to 61.5 in 2005 to 37.3 in 2013 (AHBs). These are the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Bhutan has achieved under the health sector.
  • Introduction of Hep birth dose in 2011.
