Move

The year 2015 was a landmark moment for BHTF as it marked the beginning of BHTF's financing of essential drugs. Moreover, it was a year that commemorated the 60th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, who championed the idea of providing Free Primary Healthcare for the people of Bhutan for all times to come. BHTF in collaboration with the Ministry of Health organized several programs to mark the year. As a precursor to the walk, International potential donors and guests were invited to Bhutan and they were provided a glimpse into Bhutan’s progress made in Primary Health Care System during a discussion at Paro. They were also taken on a tour of Bhutan to present to them the difficulties of providing Universal Health coverage in Bhutan.

The walk itself started on October 11th from the Royal Thimphu College located at Ngagiphu, Thimphu and was flagged in at the Clock Tower, Thimphu. Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck graced the Flagg off ceremony. The walk was aimed at Promoting Healthy lifestyle and reducing non-communicable diseases in the country. Hundreds of participants joined the Hon’ble Health Minister who led the Walk and such similar Move for walk events were conducted in the rest of the other 19 Dzongkhags. The walk was able to raise around Nu 12.6 million which would enable BHTF to continue to finance the essential drugs and vaccines within the country. The launch of the essential drugs and vaccines through BHTF funding was done on 14th October 2015.
