BHTF funds the Pneumococcal Conjugative Vaccine (PCV)

In an effort to prevent children from meningitis and Pneumonia, Bhutan Health Trust Fund has started funding the Pneumococcal Conjugative Vaccine (PCV 13) which was introduced by Ministry of Health in January 2019. The PCV 13 vaccine is going to incur Bhutan Health Trust Fund an amount of Nu. 9.2 million annually. An estimated 800 deaths due to pneumonia and meningitis has been reported in the last nine years. Pneumococcal diseases include meningitis,otitis media, pneumonia and bacteremia. However, with this vaccine introduction, around 10,000 children are expected to be vaccinated annually to prevent them from such diseases.

Currently BHTF is financing the purchase of Pentavalent, HPV and Influenza vaccines in the country as per its mandate to provide funding for the procurement of essential drugs and vaccines.
